This hilarious collection of stories from Lily was outstanding! Real life shared experiences and unforgettable stories personalized this book wonderfully. Family, friends, food, Balkin stories, food, pets, spouses, more food, driving...I couldn't put it down. Reading this makes you want more and more from Temmer!! When is Volume II ?!?! I think L.S. Temmer is a gifted writer and recommend everyone read her books!
I decided to give Throw Granny off the Balcony and Other Short Stories a try after reading and enjoying Temmer's Death of an Activist. And low and behold, this one is a real gem and the opposite of DofaA . I could really relate to these stories as Temmer and I share a similar background, including national origin. Maybe it's because of this that I liked it so much but I think that anyone can find the humor in these stories about a dysfunctional immigrant family (ala My Big Fat Greek Wedding). )
This is a truly delightful collection of adventures taken from author Lily Temmer's own life...and what fun, madcap adventures she's had!! These short tales recount zany situations with over-the-top interesting characters (mostly real-life family members and friends). It's more than just situational splendor, though. It's the *way* the stories are written that brings a sense of whimsy and delight to the reader. I laughed out loud many times - and imagined the scenes as if I were actually there. It takes a skilled writer to experience a moment in time and capture the hilarity of it in words. I can't wait until the next volume of stories emerges! (fingers crossed that there will be a second volume!)

who acted strange (to us young ones) and amusing.
The other stories are also very interesting and funny.
I love the in depth characters, and the worldly, detailed style of this writer. Perfect for a weekend vacation, bedside companion for quick reads at night, or a retreat from the daily grind. L.S. Temmer is a talented writer....engaging stories, strong endings, and always leaves me coming back for more.
LOVED IT TO PIECES!
I needed a dose of family humor....someone's family other than my own! Lily Temmler's wide angle lens view of family life from the perspective of many ages in her own life helped inject some humor in episodes of my own delightfully dysfunctional life. At least we can laugh about things when selective memory keeps playing back scenes of life that we can't quite reconcile.
